Biography:
Susan Burton, a former Ada Township Planning Commissioner (five years), was elected as Clerk in November, 2008. Burton is a former teacher and business owner. She has been an Ada resident for over ten years, and has family ties to the area. Susan Burton graduated from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree in art and English. She graduated from Kentwood High School, and later Grand Rapids Junior College before attending WMU. She taught for several years in the Wyoming and Jenison middle and high schools, and did graduate work at the University of Michigan.
Susan Burton started a business, All Media Productions, Inc., with a partner and together they produced the first educational video for schools on AIDS, which won the Golden Apple award, the equivalent of an academy award for education.
Burton is a founding member and past president of the Republican Women's Forum. She also was selected as a 2003 fellow for the Michigan Political Leadership Program, has chaired a committee for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, and was the Athena Award winner for 1995. She has worked as a docent at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, curated an art show for the Lowell Arts Council, and is one of the jurors for the Fallasburg Arts Festival.
